Professor Patrick Matakala was the Vice Chairman of the CBNRM Forum between 2006 and 2010. He stepped down when he was appointed as Country Director of WWF which was the major funding agency to the Forum, he felt his work would compromise his position on the Board. While he was Vice Chairperson he was instrumental in the formation of the Climate change network as a working group of the CBNRM Forum leading to a grant award by DFID to the Forum to lead Climate change discussion in the country.
He was also a principle author of the CBNRM professional course that was approved by TEVETA and now administered by Zambia Forestry College. He also developed an initial five year strategic plan 2010-2014 for the Forum and also facilitated two major policy briefs for the Forum one on Budget Tracking and Analysis of the Environment and Natural Resource Sector in the 2012 Zambia National Budget and the other on Tracking Budget Allocations to the Forest Sector, Revenue and Expenditure: The Case of Kaoma District Forest Office.
He will surely be missed by the CBNRM Community in Zambia. May his soul rest in peace.
