ABOUT US

The Zambia Community-Based Natural Resources Management (CBNRM) Forum was established in 2004 and formally launched on 12th August, 2005 by the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources (MTENR).  The Forum is member based Organization and an umbrella organization for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and a member of the NGO Association of Zambia and works with individuals or institutions with interest in or supportive of Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) in Zambia.   As such, it provides a platform for CBNRM discourse, debate and development promotion of sustainable livelihoods and poverty reduction through natural resources management with focus of working with women, men and youths in these community structures in Community Resources Board, Community Forest Management Groups, Fisheries Groups, Village Action Groups.

To advocate for community Resources Rights,dialogue and policy making through acknowledgement of the key roles communities have in CBNRM through improved strategy, supports, and facilitations of key making progress.

Our Goal

Improved rural livelihoods at household level attained through sustainable management of natural resources, dialogue, networking, capacity building of Communities in Zambia and engagement of communities at local and international platforms through various participation. Improve the effectiveness and management of community structures in the CBNRM.

Key Projects the FORUM has Implemeted

Forestry Landscape Restoration-FLR- Active

The Forest Landscape Restoration Project (FLRP) is a Programme of the WWF Zambia Country Office (WWFZCO) working in collaboration with the Zambia Community based Forum (ZCBNRMF).

EGC BIOPAMA Project-Enhancing Governance and Conservation – Active

It is an initiative of the ACP(African Caribbean Countries )group of states financed by European Union jointly implemented by International Union of Conservation of Nature(IUCN) and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission(JCR).

LeAP Project-Learning and Action Platform Project - Ended

The learning and action platform for community engagement against illegal wildlife trade (LEAP)’ is a three-year project running from July, 2018 to March 2020. The project is supporting work by the CBD and CITES on community engagement in IWT. 

Organizational Development- Active

Many African Civil societies are limited in the   dissemination of their information due to the fact that they lack a well-balanced and equipped organization structure. They hold vital information but their core business is less felt.

COLANDS-Collaboration For Operationa Landscape Approaches for Nature Development and Sustainability- Active

project, funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the Germany Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), is being implemented in Kalomo district of Southern Zambia.

CAPP-Conservation Agency for Pro Poor Communities- Active

However, most village-level groups are dysfunctional, and contributing little to achieving sustainability goals. Practical examples of local issues encountered by the CAPP partners over the past decade include overfishing, problems in addressing pollution from mining, addressing communities’ impacts of planned dam projects, land use and encroachment issues, as well as dealing with extensive deforestation and frequent droughts or excessive rains.
