SHE IS THE CHANGE

THE TRANSFORMATIVE APPROACHES THROUGH AMPLIFYING WOMEN’S AND MARGINALIZED GROUP'S VOICES AND PARTICIPATION IN EXTRACTIVE GOVERNANCE AND ENHANCED CLIMATE RESILIENCE ACTIONS PROJECT

Since 2025 February the Zambia CBNRM Forum in Partnership with the ZCRB Association have implemented a one-year Project supporting and empowering women and youths in forestry governance in Mambwe District in 3 Chiefdoms namely Msoro,Nsefu and Mnkhanya Chiefdoms. Through support and funding with Sida grant and ActionAid Zambia. The project was a success with all 10 planned activities done in all chiefdoms benefiting 1300 individuals. The project specifically worked with women and youth groups, savings groups, clubs, community resources boards and Community Forest management groups and farmers groups. As a Project we worked with 90 groups in all the 3 chiefdoms sharing and empowering and supporting them through capacity development and enhancement, trainings, mentorship and development of knowledge materials and through interactions the groups shared lessons and best practices which also contributed to the positive results of the Project. Despite the challenge in Zambia’s forestry sector faces significant challenges, including deforestation, land degradation, and forest diseases, resulting in substantial economic losses.

The Project was specifically designed to work with these Community Based Groups through community led conservation and adaptation with available resources in their areas through sustainable forest management and climate resilience action, The groups mentioned Community Cooperatives, farmers cooperatives, women’s savings groups and youth club where mobilised organised and coordinated through chiefdom liaison officers. It is our hope that as we solicit for more funding these groups can continue to benefit from what has started. We appreciate the support of the donors and key stakeholders that we worked with in the last year.
